    • Data concerning misalignment of beams is measured and held in an optical scanning apparatus before the optical scanning apparatus is incorporated in an image forming apparatus. The optical scanning apparatus includes a light source for emitting multiple beams, an optical lens for converting the multiple beams to parallel lights and a rotating polygon mirror for rotary-deflecting the multiple beams. Furthermore, the measurement apparatus measures main scanning direction misalignment among the multiple beams on a photosensitive member provided for the image forming apparatus, which has been determined by detecting the multiple beams from the rotating polygon mirror (and an f¸ lens). The optical scanning apparatus includes a holding unit for holding the data concerning misalignment. The image forming apparatus in which the optical scanning apparatus is incorporated corrects the misalignment with the use of the data concerning misalignment inputted directly or indirectly from the holding unit.

    • An image reading apparatus and an image reading method using the apparatus are provided to prevent a driving clock signal from being transmitted through a flat cable which connects an image reading module with a main controller by locating a timing generator which generates the driving clock signal in the image reading module to prevent generation of signal matching error. An image reading apparatus(100) includes an image reading module(130), a main controller(170), and an analog-to-digital converter. The image reading module includes an image sensor(133) for reading an image of a document, and a timing generator(132) for generating a driving clock signal for controlling the image sensor. The main controller outputs an enable clock signal to the timing generator. The analog-to-digital converter converts an analog signal output from the image sensor to a digital signal.

    • An optical scanning device is provided to correct misalignment at high precision and to obtain data about misalignment in a factory by a measuring instrument. An optical scanning device included in an image forming apparatus is composed of: a light source for emitting plural beams; a rotary polygon mirror(303) for rotatively deflecting the beams; a lens(305) for passing the deflected beams; and a maintaining unit for keeping data related to a main scanning direction misalignment among plural beams on a photoconductor installed in the image forming apparatus, wherein the data is determined in advance by detecting the beams having passed through the lens before the optical scanning device is installed in the image forming apparatus. The data related to the main scanning direction misalignment includes data for correcting the main scanning direction misalignment among the beams on the photoconductor.
