摘要： A multimedia contents service method and a portable terminal therefor are provided to check information contained in a header file of contents data when the multimedia contents data starts to be downloaded, and to compare the checked file with available decoding capability of the terminal to previously notify a user whether it is possible to decode contents data, thus the user can efficiently download the data. When contents selected by a user are downloaded, a portable terminal parses header information of the contents(S700). Profiles are confirmed(S710). It is decided whether decoding is possible by comparing the confirmed profiles with a profile data table(S720). If not, downloading is interrupted(S730), and a 'decoding impossible' message for the interrupted contents is displayed(S740). The presence server requests real-time report about session change information of an online terminal to an IP(Internet Protocol) location server(420) and changes presence information of the terminal according to information which is reported in real time. When a session of the requesting terminal is released, the IP location server transmits wireless link release information of a corresponding terminal to the presence server.
