    • PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for enabling mobile-to-mobile calls via a common relay station is provided to reduce the amount of delay present in the system as well as to allows for encryption of the signals transmitted to a form the mobile station. CONSTITUTION: A communication system includes a relay station(30) for communicating with the first and second wireless phones. A transponder means in the relay station(30) not only relays signals received from one mobile station on a first frequency band to another mobile station on a second frequency band, but also sends the received signals to a control means which controls the operation of the transponder means using control information. When a first mobile station(32) requests an enciphered connection with a second mobile station(34), the communication system determines whether the second mobile station(34) is only reachable by a satellite. When the second mobile station(34) is only reachable by a satellite, the communication system allocates a direct mobile-to-mobile transponder channel in the satellite for the call. In addition, the communication system sends the identification of the transponder channel and the enciphering codes to the first mobile station and informs the second mobile station(34) of the call identification of the transponder channel and the enciphering codes.

    • PURPOSE: A method for connecting an optional access channel in a satellite mobile communication system and a method therefor are provided to easily synchronize a mobile station with a satellite system, and to distributively transmit preambles and message data, thereby reducing interferences between packet signals. CONSTITUTION: A mobile station selects an optional channel access service class(S801), and initializes a retransmission period counter to '0'(S803). If the counter exceeds a maximum retransmission period(S805), an access procedure fails(S807). If the counter does not exceed the maximum retransmission period, the mobile station updates a parameter related to an optional access channel(S809). The mobile station checks persistence(S811), and initializes a power increase retransmission period for transmitting preambles and message data to '0'(S815). If a power increase counter is smaller than a maximum power increase retransmission period(S817), the mobile station selects a signature(S823), and transmits the preambles and the message data(S825). If a detected value is '1'(S827), the mobile station completes an optional access channel process.

    • PURPOSE: A transmission method in a random access channel of a mobile communication system is provided to decrease a transmission delay time and enhance message receipt success probability in a mobile satellite communication system. CONSTITUTION: If a re-transmission period counter is less than the number of maximum re-transmission period(S505), an access process association parameter is updated as a recent value and a persistence check is performed(S507). A random number between 0 and 1 is generated(S508). If the generated value is larger than a persistence check probability(S509), a check is performed after waiting to a next frame(S510). If the generated value is less than or same to the persistence check probability, a power increase counter is initialized as 0(S511). The power increase counter is increased by 1(S512). If the power increase counter is less than the number of maximum power increase(S513), a possible signature is selected in a selected service class(S515) and a preamble and a message are transmitted(S516). A detection acknowledge signal corresponding to a signature used in the preamble through a preamble detection acknowledge channel while a detection acknowledge signal standby time elapses and a detection acknowledge signal receipt period elapses is received, and the received detection acknowledge signals are synthesized(S517,S518).
