    • PURPOSE: An early termination system and a method for low power implementation of a turbo decoder are provided to improve a bit error rate by reducing the average number of an iterative decoding of the turbo decoder and decoding delay. CONSTITUTION: A first decoder(110) decodes information bit and the sign bit of a first coded bit. An interleaver(115) interleaves the output signal of the first decoder. A second decoder(120) decodes an interleaved channel and a second coded bit through the interleaver. A first storage stores the sign bit of the first decoder. A second storage stores the sign bit of the second decoder. A sign bit comparator(130) compares the amount of the change in sign bit. A controller(140) decodes the information bit through hard decision.

    • There are provided a method, an apparatus and a computer program product for reducing power consumption in an iterative decoder. The apparatus includes a memory device and an iteration termination device. The memory device is for storing a bit number difference indicating a number of bits that are different between a decoded codeword for a current iteration and a decoded codeword for a previous iteration, for each iteration of the iterative decoder prior to a maximum number of iterations.     • An apparatus and a method for stopping iterative decoding using BIP(Bit Interleave Parity), and a turbo decoder using the same are provided to reduce the amount of hardware by preparing a memory device according to the length of BIP and comparing BIP values in parallel. An apparatus(31) for stopping iterative decoding using BIP includes a BIP calculating unit(311), a storage unit(312), a BIP comparing unit(313), and an iterative decoding stopping unit(314). The BIP calculating unit calculates the BIP for transmission data estimated through a decoding process in a turbo decoder(30). The storage unit stores the BIP(present BIP) for the transmission data estimated in the present decoding process, and the BIP(previous BIP) for the transmission data estimated in the previous decoding process. The BIP comparing unit compares the present BIP with the previous BIP to determine whether the BIPs are identical to each other. The iterative decoding stopping unit stops the iterative decoding process in the turbo decoder in case that the BIPs are identical to each other.

    • PURPOSE: A method of displaying decoding abilities of soft value in a repeat decoder is provided to be capable of indicating a decoding result of a receive side more variously using a symbol conversion value and of predicting the decoding result. CONSTITUTION: Reference values for converting and testing hard decision values obtained in the first repetition decoding period are stored into a Dr, and a variable(F) for a total symbol-flipping value is reset to 0(30). The hard decision values are compared with values obtained by hard decision in a previous stage, a flipping amount is obtained via a current decoding stage, and is added to the variable(F), and a flipping number of reset data(40) is calculated and updated. An average variation amount is used as a reference indicating a decoding result of an average variation amount changed in each repetition decoding period, during a maximum repetition number value(imax)(70). A soft level decoding result value becomes a fixed amount using an average variation amount obtained in a decoding stage(60).
