    • An optical information reproducing apparatus and method are provided to multiplex optical information by modulating a reference beam pattern formed in a light modulator. An optical information reproducing apparatus comprises a light source, a spatial light modulator(130), a lens(180), and an optical information detector. The spatial light modulator displays a combed reference beam pattern(132) and allows a beam from the light source to be modulated as the reference beam while passing through the reference beam pattern. The lens guides the reference beam to an optical information storage medium(190). The optical information detector detects a reproducing beam reproduced by the reference beam incident to a recording area of the optical information storage medium.

    • An optical information recording apparatus and a method of recording optical information are provided to enable multiplexing of optical information by controlling a reference beam of a light modulator. An optical information recording apparatus(190) comprises a light source, a light modulator(130), and a lens(180). The light modulator represents data for recording as a signal pattern of a two dimensional page type so as to modulate beams into a reference beam and a signal beam and represents a reference bean pattern around the signal beam pattern, wherein the reference beam pattern is a herring bone pattern. The reference bean and the signal bean are projected to the lens coaxially. The lens makes refraction angle of the reference beam different from refraction angle of the signal beam, when the signal beam and the reference beam are projected to an optical information recording medium so that the reference beam interferes with the signal beam within the optical information recording medium. The light modulator is either an LCD(Liquid crystal display) which passes beams or a digital micro mirror device which reflects beams.
