    • PURPOSE: Polyvinyl alcohol type binder fiber is characterized by having under 30% of cross-section circularity, over 100% of a degree of swelling in water of 30deg.C and under 20% of a degree of dissolution. The polyvinyl alcohol type binder fiber is used in manufacturing high strength paper or non-woven fabric even under low-energy dry conditions such as a high speed drying method like a hot air drying method or a low temperature drying method like a multi-cylinder method. CONSTITUTION: Polyvinyl alcohol type binder fiber has under 30% of cross-section circularity, over 100% of a degree of swelling in water of 30deg.C and under 20% of a degree of dissolution. The polyvinyl alcohol type binder fiber has a flat cross-section. The PVA binder fiber is obtained by using a resin copolymerized 0.1-15mol% of one selected from the group containing carboxylic acid group, sulfonic acid group, ethylene group, silane group, silanol group, amine group and ammonium group. Paper or non-woven fabric contains 1-50%by mass of the PVA binder fiber.
