    • PURPOSE: An upward directed work detecting system is provided to improve production of quality guaranteed work by preventing damage of facility through emergency control in advance if the work is abnormal by detecting whether the work is directed upward or not at 50 m in front of edge heater during transfer of a bar work. CONSTITUTION: The upward directed work detecting system(50) for improving production of quality guaranteed hot rolled work comprises an upward directed work detection bar(54) fixed by a fixing stand(53) which is installed in front of edge heater(10), and into which bearing is assembled in such a way that the upward directed work detection bar is moved as the upward directed work detection bar is contacted with the work when a work(40) is directed upward, and the upward directed work detection bar is not moved as the upward directed work detection bar is not contacted with the work when the work is not directed upward; a proximity sensor fixing support(51) installed at one side surface of the upward directed work detection bar in such a manner that the proximity sensor fixing support is spaced apart from the upward directed work detection bar in a certain distance; and an upward directed work detecting proximity sensor(52) which is installed at the proximity sensor fixing support, and in which normal signal is outputted by always detecting the upward directed work detection bar if the work is not contacted with the upward directed work detection bar, and the upward directed work detection bar is not detected, but abnormal signal (upward direction generating signal) is outputted if the upward directed work detection bar is moved by contact with the work.

    • A method of cooling a steel sheet, in which improved uniform cooling in the direction of steel sheet conveyance can be attained. The method is characterized by the following. In anterior section (4a) of cooling unit, during the passage of distal end region (11) of steel sheet, the cooling water rate is set to noninjection of water. At the passage of distal part region (12), the cooling water rate is gradually increased from 80 to 95 vol.% (Qiront) of standard water rate density (Qo). At the arrival of the boundary between distal part region and middle part region, water injection is conducted so that the cooling water rate agrees with the standard water rate density. During the passage of the middle part region, water injection is continued at the standard water rate density. In posterior section (4b) of the cooling unit, during the passage of the distal end region of the steel sheet, the cooling water rate is set to 80 to 95 vol.% of the standard water rate density. At the passage of the distal part region, the cooling water rate is gradually increased from 80 to 95 vol.% of standard water rate density. At the arrival of the boundary between distal part region and middle part region, water injection is conducted so that the cooling water rate agrees with the standard water rate density.
