    • An optical disc device, and a method for deciding recording power thereof are provided to decrease time required for OPC(Optimum Power Calibration) and to detect the most adequate recording power. An optical disc device comprises a beam source, a reproduction unit, and a control unit(30). The beam source emits laser to record and reproduce data at an optical disc(10). The reproduction unit decodes the data recorded at the optical disc, by receiving the laser reflected at the optical disc. The control unit reproduces test data by controlling the reproduction unit by recording the test data in plural times by controlling the beam source to decide the most adequate recording power and detects the most adequate recording power by measuring reproduction quality. A method for deciding the recording power includes a step of recording the test data in plural times at a regular area of the optical disc; a step of measuring the reproduction quality by reproducing the recorded data in plural times; and a step of deciding the most adequate recording power by using a measuring result.

    • A method for detecting optimum erasion power in an optical disc device is provided to detect the optimum erasion power suitable for a corresponding optical disc to perform optimum erasion when an area where OPC(Optimum Power Calibration) will be performed is erased before the OPC is performed to enhance the reliability of the performed result of the OPC. A control unit obtains a modulation curve in comparison to power supplied to adjust the quantity of light irradiated on an optical disc(S210-S240). The control unit calculates a change quantity of modulation according to the change of the power in the modulation curve(S260). The control unit sets optimum erasion power by using the calculated change quantity(S270,S280).

Laser beam is emitted by applying an optical output signal to the light source in the predetermined area of the optical disk. The optical output characteristics of the light source are checked by using the optical output signal and the optical output of the emitted laser beam.

    • An optical disc device and an optical output study method are provided to prevent the inaccuracy of a power study result capable of being generated according to the saturation of an LD(Laser Diode) output in a high temperature and perform accurate power study in a low output. An LD(Laser Diode)(24) emits a laser of a corresponding output according to an optical output control signal. An FPD(Front Photo Diode)(22) detects a part of the emitted laser, and outputs a signal corresponding to the output of the emitted laser. A control unit(34) provides the optical output control signal of a uniform range to the LD(24), and calculates a characteristic of the laser output corresponding to the optical output control signal in consideration of whether the LD(24) is saturated by using the output signal of the LD(24).
