    • A surface light source device and a backlight unit having the same are provided to offer the reflection function and the fluorescent function only by using a single mixing layer. The second substrate(112) is arranged at the upper portion of the first substrate(111). Partitions(120) are arranged between the first and second substrates and form plural discharge spaces for receiving the discharge gas. An electrode is equipped to the first and second substrates and applies the voltage to the discharge gas. A mixing layer(180) is formed on the surface of the first substrate by mixing the reflection materials with fluorescent materials. The fluorescent layer is formed on the base surface of the second substrate. The thickness of the mixing layer is below 30 micrometer and the thickness of the fluorescent layer is below 15 micrometer. The partitions are integrally formed to the second substrate.
