    • A fast motion mode decision method is provided to decrease the amount of operation effectively by applying the high speed motion prediction process, and to shorten the prediction process by using the various motion block. A high speed motion mode decision method performs motion prediction and a compensation process by using at least one motion block type in video compression coding. An analogousness between the pixels in the target coding block and the pixels in the reference block is calculated for the given target motion block type. The analogousness is decided by comparison of the calculated analogousness with the pre-established critical value. In case of high analogousness, the target motion block type is decided as the final motion block type. The rate-distortion cost is calculated. The high speed motion mode decision method determines the final motion block type through the comparison of the rate-distortion cost.
