    • PURPOSE: A soft decision detecting device for a high order APSK modulation scheme and a method thereof are provided to significantly reduce the complexity of soft decision value calculations. CONSTITUTION: A soft decision detecting device includes an assessment signal converting unit (210), initial soft decision bit calculating unit (220), and channel gain reflecting unit (230). The assessment signal converting unit converts a received complex signal into an assessment signal in which a channel gain is reflected. The initial soft decision bit calculating unit calculates an initial soft decision bit value by checking boundaries corresponding to each predetermined bit and calculating distances between the boundaries and the assessment signal. The channel gain reflecting unit calculates a final soft decision bit value by reflecting the channel gain in the initial soft decision bit value.
