    • PURPOSE: An asynchronous transfer mode(ATM) interface system is provided to minimize examination time for cell continuity by examining the cell continuity of cell sequence numbers(SNs) when cells are transmitted, to examine cell losses and error cells by comparing expected SNs to immediately insert dummy data if values of the SNs are different, and by applying a fast SN algorithm for processing a next cell. CONSTITUTION: An asynchronous transfer mode(ATM) interface system comprises a line input/output circuit(21), a frame processor(22), an ATM adaptation layer(AAL)-1 data processor(23), a physical layer processor(24), an adaptive clock generator(25), a photoelectric converter(26), and a system controller(27). An ATM broadband interface(2) receives two kinds of signals from carrier relays(CRs)(1) to process the signals in the line input/output circuit. The frame processor frames or deframes the signals of the line input/output circuit, or bypasses the signals. The AAL-1 data processor receives the deframed signals to generate an ATM cell, and transmits the ATM cell to the physical layer processor or receives an ATM cell of a network. The AAL-1 data processor restores a carrier relay signal to transmit the signal to the frame processor. The physical layer processor transceives data with the AAL-1 data processor, and interfaces with an ATM network. The adaptive clock generator receives a control signal of the AAL-1 data processor to generate an adaptive clock.
