Anti-viral and anti-fungal compositions comprise the pathogenesis-related protein 10 as an effective component.

    • PURPOSE: A virus-induced cell wall protein from hot pepper and a gene encoding the same are provided, which cell wall protein gene is induced as a defense response by environment stresses as well as plant pathogenic virus. CONSTITUTION: The gene encoding the virus-induced cell wall protein from hot pepper has the nucleotide sequence set forth in SEQ ID NO: 1, contains a cell wall signal directing peptide sequence, is present in the genome of Capsicum annuum L. in single copy, and contains 4 repeated motifs of which three dimensional structure is helix-turn-helix motif, wherein the gene encoding the virus-induced cell wall protein is induced by plant pathogenic virus, and plant hormone or stress-causing materials; the plant pathogenic virus is tobacco mosaic virus or cucumber mosaic virus; and the plant hormone or stress-causing materials are ethylene, salicylic acid, ABA, methyl jasmonic acid, methyl viologen, sodium chloride or wounding. The virus-induced cell wall protein from hot pepper has the amino acid sequence set forth in SEQ ID NO: 2, has tolerance to plant pathogenic virus and is positioned in the cell wall.

    • PURPOSE: Defense genes sharing bidirectional promoter which are derived from hot pepper and induced by plant pathogenic virus are provided, which defense genes are induced as a defense response by bacteria, ethylene and methyl viologen as well as plant pathogenic virus. CONSTITUTION: The defense gene has the nucleotide sequence set forth in SEQ ID NO: 1, contains bidirectional promoter, is present in the genome of Capsicum annuum L. in single copy, and is specifically expressed by plant pathogenic virus, wherein the bidirectional promoter contains two TATA boxes, four GCC-boxes, a root responsive element and a W1 box. The defense gene has the nucleotide sequence set forth in SEQ ID NO: 3, shares bidirectional promoter, is present in the genome of Capsicum annuum L. in single copy, and is specifically expressed by plant pathogenic virus.
