    • PURPOSE: A control circuit is provided for an auxiliary power supply in an apparatus having run and standby modes of operation. CONSTITUTION: An auxiliary power supply is energized by raw B+ voltage(RAW B+) and operates in a switched mode, responsive to a feedback signal indicative of loading. A switching circuit(R1,R2,R3,R4,Q2,16), also energized by the raw B+ voltage, changes the auxiliary power supply between operational and non operational modes responsive to an on/off signal(+23 V-RUN). The on/off signal is indicative of the run and standby modes of operation of the apparatus, for example a run supply voltage generated by another power supply in the apparatus. The switching circuit includes a switch(U3) optically coupled to a voltage threshold detector(Z3). The switch interrupts the feedback signal, for example by shunting to ground, in a manner which inhibits operation of the switching controller during the standby mode of operation of the apparatus.

    • PURPOSE: A fault control circuit is provided to control a switched power supplies during current overload condition by utilizing a control circuit. CONSTITUTION: A voltage source(RAW B+), a transformer(T1) and a switching controller (U1) are coupled for switched mode generation of a regulated output supply voltage. A switching circuit(R5, R6, R7, Q3, Q4, Z3, U3) responsive to an on/off signal(+23 V-RUN) turns the power supply on and off by establishing a conductive condition in a conductive path. A fault detector(42) establishes a non-conductive condition in a part of the conduction path responsive to an overload condition. A delay circuit(40) establishes a conductive condition in an auxiliary conduction path for a period of time after the power supply is turned on. The auxiliary conduction path becomes non-conductive when the fault detector establishes a conductive condition in the part of the conduction path. The part of the conduction path remains conductive absent an overload condition. A latch arrangement including the delay circuit maintains the non-conductive condition in the auxiliary conduction path until the power supply is turned off.

    • Run/standby switching including switching to standby upon excessive current loading are provided in a switched mode power supply useful as an auxiliary power supply in a television. A switching controller IC is coupled between a primary transformer winding on the rectified raw B+ input voltage and ground. A switching transistor is coupled to the control input of the controller and is biased by the raw B+ input voltage for pulling down the control input. A run/standby control circuit and an overcurrent protective circuit disable the switching transistor during run mode operation and enable the switching transistor upon an overcurrent fault. The switched-mode power supply is further provided with a quick-reset capability to enable the power supply to consistently provide output voltages which are within nominal output voltage levels despite rapidly repeated dislocations in the operational mode of the apparatus.
