    • PURPOSE: An optical power adjusting device in an optical disk drive and a method thereof are provided to search write strategy information in a database of a nonvolatile memory and apply reliably adjusted write strategy information. CONSTITUTION: A memory(17) stores disk information of existing optical disks and write strategy information adjusted by the disk information in a database. If a new optical disk is inserted into an optical disk drive, a controller(15) searches disk information of an existing optical disk similar to disk information of the new optical disk in the database. The controller searches the disk information and the write strategy information in the database. The controller adjusts optical power.

    • A method for optimum power calibration of an optical disk device is provided to reduce difference in optimum recording power from different manufacturers by controlling an RF signal such that a gain adjustment value of detected RF signal can be adjusted within a measurable range of the detection signal. A method for optimum power calibration of an optical disk device comprises the steps of: reading test data for measuring a reproduction RF signal level, which is a signal calibrated by a reference gain value, while optimal recording power is detected(S21); discriminating whether the measured reproduction RF signal is within a range of reference level(S22,S23); and determining gain calibration value of the reproduction RF signal such that the measured reproduction RF signal can be included within the range of reference level(S25,S26).
