    • PURPOSE: A protocol for storing and restoring a complete sub-macroblock forming candidate for motion estimation is provided to use N-th upper motion vector results, thereby determining an optimized partition or a forming candidate when a small difference between forming candidates is existed. CONSTITUTION: A motion search engine of a video encoder obtains a first search result for a first motion predictor and provides the first search result as output(402,404). The motion search engine obtains a second search result for a second motion predictor(406). The first search result includes a plurality of macroblock partitions of a source macroblock and/or a first motion vector result for a sub-macroblock partition. [Reference numerals] (402) Obtain first search results for a first motion predictor, the first search results including a first motion vector result for each of a plurality of macroblock and/or sub-macroblock partitions of a source macroblock; (404) Provide the first search results as output; (406) Obtain second search results for a second motion predictor, wherein obtaining the second search results includes using the first search results as initial conditions for performing a motion search using the second motion predictor; (408) Generate all search results by combining the first search results with the second search results; (410) Provide the all search results as output; (412) Obtain third search results for a third motion predictor, wherein obtaining the third search results includes the all search results as initial conditions for performing a motion search using the third motion predictor
