    • PURPOSE: Provided is a process for producing fine spherical particles of poly(vinyl pivalate) having high syndiotacticity by emulsion-polymerizing vinyl pivalate at a low temperature and particles of an embolic agent produced by converting the surfaces of the poly(vinyl pivalate) particles into poly vinyl alcohol. CONSTITUTION: The fine spherical particles of the poly(vinyl pivalate) are produced by emulsion-polymerizing 1mol of the vinyl pivalate monomers, 1x10¬-5 to 5x10¬-3mol of azobis dimethyl valeronitrile as an initiator, 1x10¬-6 to 1x10¬-4mol of an emulsion stabilizer, and 1.0 to 50mol of water at 20-70deg.C and 10-5,000rpm. The poly(vinyl pivalate) has a particle diameter of 1-3000 micrometer and the difference between the largest size and the smallest size is 1-500 micrometer and a multi-dispersion index of the particle diameter being 1.00-1.60. And the particles of the embolic agent have core/shell structure comprising the poly(vinyl pivalate) insides and the poly vinyl alcohol surfaces by performing a saponification at the surfaces by emulsifying the poly(vinyl pivalate) particles in an alcohol water solution containing sulfates or bisulfites or a mixture thereof, hydroxides, and alcohol as a swelling agent.

    • PURPOSE: A vinyl polypivalate polymer composition is provided, which has a high syndiotacticity to be useful as a precursor of polyvinyl alcohol with high syndiotacticity. Also, a method for producing such vinyl polypivalate polymer is provided. CONSTITUTION: The vinyl polypivalate polymer composition is obtained by adding tetrahydrofuran as a polymerization solvent to vinyl pivalate, followed by stirring; passing nitrogen at a high pressure; raising the temperature for polymerization; adding azobisdimethyl valeronitrile as an initiator to the solution under nitrogen atmosphere for solution polymerization of vinyl polypivalate polymer having a number average polymerization degree of 200 to 20,000, a content of syndiotacticity diad group of 55 to 70 %, and a branching level to pivaloyl group of 0.5 to 3.0. The molar ratio of azobisdimethyl valeronitrile as an initiator to 1 mole of vinyl pivalate is 1 x 10¬-5 mole to 5 x 10¬-3 mole and the tetrahydrofuran as a solvent is 0.05 mole to 5.0 mole.

    • PURPOSE: A crosslinked poly(vinyl alcohol) adhesive and its preparation method are provided, to obtain a poly(vinyl alcohol) adhesive having various stereoregularity by controlling the ratio of a crosslinking agent and an acid or a base. CONSTITUTION: The crosslinked poly(vinyl alcohol) adhesive is prepared by polymerizing a monomer mixture comprising vinyl acetate and vinyl pivalate in the ratio of 0.1-15 : 1 by mol by using 0.00001-0.05 mol azobisdimethyl valeronitrile based on 1 mol of the monomer mixture at a temperature of 20-80 deg.C, to prepare precursors having various stereoregularity; saponifying the precursors to prepare a poly(vinyl alcohol) having a degree of saponification of 70.0-99.9 %, a number average molecular weight of 50-15,000 and an alternating arrangement diad of 50-65 %; and dissolving the obtained poly(vinyl alcohol) in water and crosslinking it with a crosslinking agent.

    • PURPOSE: A method of preparing a polyvinyl alcohol microfibril staple fiber is provided to make commercial mass production by using methanol for saponification. CONSTITUTION: In a method of preparing a polyvinyl alcohol microfibril staple fiber, a copolymer of poly(vinyl pivalate/vinyl acetate) is saponified in the presence of a solvent of methanol, and a saponification solution selected from aqueous solutions of sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide and lithium hydroxide while making the shearing speed be controlled to be in the range of 20-10,000rpm. The saponification solution contains 0.005-0.07mol of sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide or lithium hydroxide and 0.01-0.8mol of water with respect to 1g of the copolymer of poly(vinyl pivalate/vinyl acetate).
