    • PURPOSE: A device and method for controlling a compressor are provided to calculate capacitor and triac voltage required for protecting a compressor by using the input voltage of a power source, the motor voltage of a compressor motor, and the motor currents of a motor. CONSTITUTION: A device for controlling a compressor comprises a capacitor, a triac (20), and a microcomputer (90). The capacitor is connected to a compressor motor. The triac powers the compressor motor depending on a gate drive signal generated from the microcomputer. The microcomputer calculates the voltage value of the capacitor and the triac by using the input voltage of a power source, the motor voltage of the compressor motor, and the motor current value of the compressor motor.
