    • An optical fiber connector having a splice element is provided to easily perform a field connection without a separate crimping tool or a connector joint platform. An optical fiber connector(100) having a splice element includes a housing and a fiber stub. The housing(110) is coupled with a receptacle. The fiber stub is a color main body arranged inside the housing. The fiber stub includes a first optical fiber. The first optical fiber is mounted inside a ferrule, and has a first end part and a second end part adjacent to an end surface of the ferrule. The color main body includes a mechanical type splice device which is arranged inside a splice device receiving part of the color main body. The mechanical type splice device splices the second end part of the fiber stub in the second optical fiber. The color main body is positioned inside the housing. A backbone includes a fiber jacket clamping part in order to clamp a jacket part which surrounds a part of the second optical fiber. A boot is attached in a part of the backbone.

    • An optical connector for terminating an optical fiber comprises a housing configured to mate with a receptacle and a collar body disposed in the housing. The collar body also includes a mechanical splice disposed in a second portion of the collar body, the mechanical splice configured to splice the second end of the fiber stub to a second optical fiber. The collar body also includes a buffer clamp configured within a third portion of the collar body, the buffer clamp configured to clamp at least a portion of a buffer cladding of the second fiber upon actuation. A field termination platform and method for field termination of an optical fiber in the optical fiber connector are also provided. The field termination platform includes a base configured to hold the optical fiber connector. An actuation mechanism is disposed on the base to actuate the splice element of the optical connector and to actuate the buffer clamping portion of the optical connector. A fiber holder is provided to hold the optical fiber in the termination platform during termination.
