    • PURPOSE: A system and method for interfacing a local communication device is provided to interface a call between an asynchronous transfer mode system that is operable to handle the call and integrated services digital network system that is operable to handle the call. CONSTITUTION: A system for interfacing a local communication device comprises a first communication device adapted to communicate a call in an asynchronous transfer mode format and a second communication device adapted to communicate the call in a time division multiplex format. The system further comprises an application processing the call and an interface system. The interface system includes a signaling processor and an inter-working unit. The signaling processor receives the call signaling from the first communication device. The signaling processor processes the call signaling to select a first connection to the application and transports a first control message designating the selected first connection. The inter-working unit receives the user communications from the first communication device and receives the first control message from the signaling processor. The inter-working unit inter-works the user communications between the asynchronous transfer mode format and a format usable by the application and transports the user communications over the selected first connection designated in the first control message.

The signaling processor processes the call trigger data and, upon validating the call trigger, instructs the inter-working unit to transport the user communications to asynchronous transfer mode cells that identify the selected connection to the third communication device(110) and transports the user communications to the third communication device.

    • A system and method to detect a call trigger during a call without requiring a service platform to remain connected to the call. A first communication device transmits a call having call signaling and user communications. A signaling processor receives the call signaling from the first communication device and selects a connection to a second communication device.
