摘要： PURPOSE: Provided is an yellow dyestuff useable in production of a polarizing membrane having improved polarizing performance together with high durability and light-resistance. CONSTITUTION: The dyestuff comprises an azo compound represented by formula(I) or the salt thereof. (wherein A and B are independently and each of them is one or two selected from sulfo and/or carboxyl-substituted phenyl group or a sulfo-substituted naphthyl group; R1-R6 show each hydrogen, an alkyl group or an alkoxy group; X shows -N=N- or -NHCO-). Each of A and B is preferably monosulfophenyl or disulfonaphthyl and R1-R6 are independently hydrogen, methyl or methoxy groups. The dyestuff polarizing membrane is prepared by comprising the azo compound into a polarizing substrate made of, for example, polyvinyl alcohol film.
