    • PURPOSE: To provide an optical recording medium in which the contribution to the formation of a spot of a converged beam can be improved when a light spot is formed in a recording layer by the converged light from an optical system. CONSTITUTION: The optical recording medium 80 is irradiated with a converged light beam LB from an optical system. The medium gives >= 30% or about >= 30% amplitude transmittance for the light in the converged light beam LB passing through outer peripheral part of the optical system and reaching the recording layer 863 in the optical recording medium 80. The optical recording medium 80 has an inorganic dielectric layer 861 in the incident side where the converged beam LB enters, and the refractive index of the inorganic dielectric layer 861 is higher than the refractive index of the optical system. The recording layer 863 is formed between dielectric layers 862 and 864. For example, the optical recording medium 80 is a phase transition type optical disk, the optical system is a near field optical system, and the converged light beam LB is obtained from blue or blue-violet laser light.
