    • A channel information communication device in a multi-hop relay system and a method are provided to enable an RS(Relay Station) to collect CQI(Channel Quality Indicator) information of MSs(Mobile Stations) to send the collected information to a BS(Base Station) through one CQI channel allocated from the BS, thereby reducing a signaling overhead in accordance with CQI channel allocation. A buffer(504) maps channel information received from MSs with identifiers of the MSs to store the mapped information, and maps channel information of an RS with an identifier of the RS to store the mapped information. A concatenation unit(508) arranges the channel information stored in the buffer according to the identifiers to concatenate the arranged information. A channel transmitter(512) transmits the concatenated channel information through an area allocated from a BS.

    • An apparatus and a method for determining performing of handoff between different networks in a wireless communication system are provided to prevent unnecessary handoff between different networks by determining whether to perform handoff with reference to a service capability of a system and QoS request information of a user. A terminal checks an adjacent system having an RSSI(Received Signal Strength Indication) higher than a threshold value(301). The terminal checks service capability information of a serving system and the adjacent system(303). The terminal calculates a satisfaction value of each system(305). The terminal compares the satisfaction values of the systems(307). If the satisfaction value of the adjacent system is higher than that of the serving system, the terminal determines the adjacent system as a target system for performing handoff(309). The terminal calculates a usability value of the serving system and the target system(311). The terminal checks whether the usability value of the target system is higher than that of the serving system(313). If the usability value of the target system is high during more than a certain time, the terminal checks whether the difference between the usability value of the target system and that of the serving system is greater than a hysteresis. If the difference is greater than the hysteresis, the terminal performs handoff to the target system.

    • An apparatus and a method for retransmission in a multi-hop relay wireless communication system are provided to increase the channel throughput as a repeater transmits only the PDUs(Protocol Data Units) that an MS(Mobile Station) fails to receive from a BS(Base Station), without transmitting all the PDUs received from the BS. A BS creates data using a hierarchical constellation so that each PDU can be robust for various errors, and transmits the data to a repeater and an MS(511,512). The repeater confirms whether each of the PDUs contained in the received data has an error, determines the MCS(Modulation and Coding Scheme) level of PDUs which have been successfully received without errors, and transmits the determined MCS level to the BS. Using the MSC level, the BS executes the retransmission of the data. Meanwhile, the MS confirms whether each of the PDUs contained in the data received from the BS has an error, determines the MCS level of PDUs which have been successfully received without errors, and transmits the determined MCS level to the repeater. The repeater confirms PDUs to be retransmitted, based on the MCS level information received from the MS. In case that the confirmed PDUs have been successfully received from the BS without errors, the repeater retransmits the PDUs to the MS(513).
