    • A method and an apparatus for encoding/decoding a concatenated low density generator matrix code in a communication system are provided to reduce hardware complexity for handling the LDGM code by encoding and decoding the LDGM code using a single decoder. A decoder includes an LDGM(Low Density Generator Matrix) decoder(511) and an interleaver(513). Received bits are delivered to the LDGM decoder. The LDGM decoder decodes the received bits corresponding to an inner parity check matrix and outputs the decoded result to the interleaver. The interleaver receives and interleaves the output signal from the LDGM decoder according to a predetermined interleaving scheme, and outputs the interleaved result to the LDGM decoder. The output signal from the interleaver is delivered to the LDGM decoder. The LDGM decoder decodes the output signal from the interleaver according to an external parity check matrix and outputs the decoded bits.

    • An apparatus and a method for transmitting and receiving a signal in a communication system using an LDPC(Low Density Parity Check) code are provided to prevent an error floor phenomenon by improving a BER(Bit Error Rate) performance and an FER(Frame Error Rate) performance in a high SNR(Signal to Noise Ratio) zone through an EMD(Extrinsic Message Degree)-IPEG(Improved Progressive-Edge-Growth) algorithm. A method for transmitting and receiving a signal in a communication system using an LDPC(Low Density Parity Check) code includes the step of: generating the LDPC code by decoding an information vector to correspond to a parity check matrix, wherein the parity check matrix is generated to correspond to a bipartite graph and when the bipartite graph of the LDPC code is generated by using an IPEG algorithm and a plurality of check nodes with the maximum smallest ACE(Approximate Cycle Extrinsic) exist among a plurality of candidate check nodes, the bipartite graph is generated by selecting the check nodes with the maximum EMD among the check nodes with the maximum smallest ACE.
