    • An apparatus and a method for allocating feedback channels in a broadband wireless communication system are provided to allocate a limited number of CQI(Channel Quality Information) channels to more terminals by adjusting the CQI feedback cycle of each terminal according to its channel variation speed. A scheduler in a base station comprises a channel variation speed calculator(304), a feedback cycle determiner(306), and a channel allocator(308). The channel variation speed calculator obtains a channel variation speed value, based on the CQI fed back from a terminal. Using the obtained channel variation speed value, the feedback cycle determiner determines the CQI feedback cycle of the terminal. The channel allocator allocates a CQI channel to the terminal according to the determined CQI feedback cycle.

    • A method and a system for transmitting signals in a communication system are provided to transmit messages having the same MCS level as a compressed-MAP together, thereby reducing the number of bursts and reducing a size of a MAP message by using the number of MAP IE. A method for transmitting signals in a communication system comprises the following steps. A BS(Base Station) confirms whether or not one or more than one MAC management messages having the same MCS(Modulation and Coding Scheme) level as a compressed-MAP message are present(601). If so, the BS determines a priority of the same MCS level message, and selects a same MCS level message having a top priority(603,605). The BS confirms whether or not a size of a compressed-MAP message area is smaller than an implementation value(607). If so, the BS includes the same MCS level message having the top priority(609). After that, the BS checks whether or not there is a same MCS message of the next priority(611).
