    • An apparatus for canceling neighbor cell interference in a broadband wireless communication system and a method thereof are provided to reduce complex-matrix multiplication operations and inverse-matrix operations when a linear MMSE(Minimum Mean Square Error) detection technique is used to cancel interference in a broadband wireless communication system, so hardware construction becomes simplified. An apparatus for canceling neighbor cell interference in a broadband wireless communication system comprises operators(201,202), channel estimators(203,204), and a detector(205). The operators perform a Fourier transform operation with respect to the target signal and neighbor signal received through each of the receiving antennas. The channel estimators receive the Fourier transformed signals from the operator, and estimate a frequency response of each channel received from the serving base station and neighbor base stations. The detector detects a target signal by using the channel frequency response estimated from the received signals.

    • An apparatus and a method for canceling interference of an adjacent cell in a broadband wireless communication system are provided to prevent an increase of complexity of hardware by preventing an additional increase of a buffer. It is checked whether signals of a serving base station and a neighbor base station are received through multiple receive antennas of a terminal(501). The terminal performs FFT(Fast Fourier Transform) on signals received through each receive antenna to transform signals of a time domain into signals of a frequency domain(503). Respective channels are estimated by using preamble signals of the serving base station and the neighbor base station from the transformed signals(505). The terminal generates a nulling vector for estimating a target signal component by using the estimated channel values(507). The terminal estimates a target signal component by linearly operating the nulling vector and the transformed reception signals(509). The terminal detects a target signal by using the generated target signal component(511).
