    • A subjective method and an apparatus for compressing image data losslessly are provided to compress or restore image data using one of a DPCM(Differential Pulse Code Modulation) method and a PCM(Pulse Code Modulation) method selectively, thereby significantly reducing the complexity of an image encoder/decoder system and accurately adjusting a CBR(Constant Bit Rate) by picture required in an LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) DCC(Dynamic Capacitance Compensation) device. A subjective method for compressing image data losslessly comprises the following steps of: compressing current data according to each of plural modes for compressing the current data(261~263); checking whether the compressed current data can be represented by the bits of a fixed length(264); selecting one of modes which can be represented by the bits of the fixed length(265); and outputting the current data compressed in the selected mode(267).

    • A motion prediction apparatus and method and an image encoding apparatus and method using the same are provided to skip motion prediction when regular conditions are satisfied or skip a motion prediction process for residual prediction block modes except a first prediction block mode by using plural prediction block modes including the first prediction block mode, thereby significantly improving the entire encoding speed by greatly reducing time required to the motion prediction without having influence on subjective restored image quality. A motion prediction apparatus comprises a first motion predicting unit(330), a subordinate block mode determining unit(351), a residual block mode skip determining unit(353), and a motion vector determining unit(355). The first motion predicting unit performs the previous motion prediction of a current block in a first prediction block mode by using an initial motion vector and determines the prediction block mode of the current block as the first prediction block mode according to the previous motion prediction result. The subordinate block mode determining unit determines the subordinate prediction block mode of the current block by using plural motion vectors obtained by the previous motion prediction for plural sub blocks composing the current block. The residual block mode skip determining unit determines whether to skip residual prediction block modes except the first prediction block mode out of the subordinate prediction block modes of the current block. The motion vector determining unit determines the motion vector of the current block by using the first prediction block mode or the plural subordinate prediction block modes including the first prediction block mode.
