According to the method, the electronic device sends position information on an area, where a user desires to search, and an area information request signal to the information providing server; the information providing server searches for area information on the area by using a social network service of users located in the area in response to the area information request signal; the information providing server sends the searched area information to the electronic device; and, the electronic device displays an area information user interface (UI) by using the area information received from the information providing server and a map of the area.
