    • PURPOSE: A local routing system in a mobile communication system and method thereof are provided to improve the efficiency of whole system resource by minimizing resource which is used for IP packet routing. CONSTITUTION: In case flow between a first MS(Mobile Station) and a second MS is matched with a local routing candidate, an AAA(Authorization Authentication and Accounting) server(619) transmits an AAA request message including information which indicates the starting of local routing to an ASN-GW(Access Serving Network Gateway)(613). The ASN-GW transmits an AAA response message including information about a response message to the AAA server. The ASN-GW performs the local routing between the second MS and the first MS.

    • A system for performing handover in a communication system by using an EAP(Extensible Authentication Protocol) scheme and a method thereof are provided to prevent abuse of wireless resources and time delay caused by reauthentication of the EAP by making it unnecessary for an MS(Mobile Station) to perform the reauthentication of the EAP in case that the MS performs idle handover to a BS(Base Station) included in a different ASN(Access Service Network) or performs active handover and then is switched to an idle mode. A method for performing handover in a communication system by using an EAP(Extensible Authentication Protocol) scheme comprises the following several steps. An MS performs EAP authentication via an ASN#1 and an AAA(Authorization Authentication Accounting) server if the MS starts accessing a network with the ASN#1(411). If the MS performs idle handover from a BS#1 to a BS#2 or performs active handover and then is switched to an idle mode again, the MS transmits an RNG-REQ(Ranging Request) message to the BS#2 and starts a network reentry operation with an ASN#2(413). If the BS#2 receives the RNG-REQ message from the MS, the BS#2 transmits an MS information request message to an ASN-GW#2(415). The ASN-GW#2 includes information, expressing that a new PMK(Pairwise Master Key), in the MS information request message, and transmits the MS information request message to an ASN-GW#1(417). The ASN-GW#1 generates a PMK2(419), includes context information of the MS, the PMK2 and RANDOM in an MS information response message, and transmits the MS information response message to the ASN-GW#2(421). The ASN-GW#2 generates AK2 by using the PMK2 and the RANDOM(423), includes the AK2 in an MS information response message, and transmits the MS information response message to the BS#2(425). The BS#2 transmits an RNG-RSP(Ranging Response) message to the MS(427). The MS generates the PMK2 and the AK2 by using the MS(429). Then, the MS transmits an SA TEK request message to the BS#2(431). The BS#2 transmits an SA TEK response message to the MS(433).
