    • PURPOSE: A magnetic encoder is provided to generate the magnetic flux of a sinusoidal wave shape simply that the transmission of waveform is little. CONSTITUTION: A magnetic encoder comprises permanent magnet rows(15,17), a magnetic piece row(9), and magnetic force detectors(19,21).     • PURPOSE: A linear motor is provided to easily shape the magnetic pole surfaces of two pole teeth disposed at both ends of a pole tooth row constituted by a plurality of pole teeth such that cogging force is reduced. CONSTITUTION: A linear motor comprises one or more magnetic pole rows(7) and an armature. The magnetic pole rows are arranged at one of a stator(1) and a mover(3), and constituted by a plurality of permanent magnets(7A,7B) arranged into rows. The armature is arranged at the other of the stator and the mover, and includes a core(9) and multi-phase exciting windings(11). The core is formed by stacking a plurality of electromagnetic steel plates(10), and has a yoke(13) and a plurality of pole teeth(15). The yoke is extended into a linear shape in the direction orthogonal to the stacking direction of the steel plates. The pole teeth are protruded from the yoke toward the magnetic pole row, and have, at ends thereof, magnetic pole surfaces opposed to the magnetic pole row. The multi-phase exciting windings excite the pole teeth. The magnetic pole surfaces of two pole teeth disposed at both ends of a pole tooth row(16) constituted by the pole teeth, have curved surfaces(19b) which are formed such that the gap between the magnetic pole row and the curved surface increases as it goes far from other adjacent pole teeth.
