    • A method for preventing settlement of aquatic fouling organisms on surface of an aquatic structure without environmental hazard is provided. The method is based upon absolutely novel concept to prevent the settlement by means of thick slime layer, i.e. bio-jelly, deposited on said surface.     • PURPOSE: Provided are a biojelly-producing strain of microorganism, a coating and a coating film each containing the microorganism, and a method for preventing attachment of macroscopic aquatic life by using the coating or coating film. CONSTITUTION: The microorganism(FERM BP-7623) which, when an underwater structure is formed with a coating film containing it, produces a biojelly in water to prevent fouling of the structure with macroscopic aquatic life, such a coating or a coating film. The method for preventing attachment of macroscopic aquatic life is characterized by using the coating or coating film. Wherein, the strain of microorganism belongs to the genus Alteromonas and has the ability to produce a biojelly; and the coating and coating film contain the strain of microorganism. Further, the method for preventing attachment of macroscopic aquatic life to an underwater structure comprises coating the surface of the structure with the coating or forming the coating film on said surface.
