    • A contact column which enables two fluids having respective phases to be brought into contact with each other in a satisfactorily dispersed state and which can be easily constructed so as to have a multistage constitution. The inside of the contact column (1) is separated into cells (22) and (32) with partitions (a vertical wall (10) and horizontal walls (21) and (31)). Each of the cells (22) and (32) serves as a space for countercurrent contact between an ascending fluid which ascends within the contact column (1) and a descending fluid which descends within the contact column (1). In each stage, the vertical wall (10) has a descending-fluid ejection opening (52) formed therein, and the descending fluid which stays due to damming by the partitions is ejected through the opening (52) to the adjoining cell (22) or (32) on the lower-stage side. An ascending-fluid inlet (51) has been formed above the ejection opening (52) and causes the ascending fluid to flow into from the cell (22) or (32) on the lower-stage side.
