    • A hydrogen permeable member which prevents direct contact between a metal porous body and a hydrogen permeable membrane, thereby preventing diffusion of metal from the metal porous body to the hydrogen permeable membrane to protect the hydrogen permeable membrane from deterioration by diffused metal, and a method for producing the same are provided. As a hydrogen permeable member comprising a metal porous body(1) and a hydrogen permeable membrane(2) disposed on the metal porous body, wherein a diffusion preventing layer(3) is interposed between the metal porous body and the hydrogen permeable membrane, the hydrogen permeable member is characterized in that the metal porous body has portions(5,6) on which the diffusion preventing layer is absent, and the portions are filled with metal oxide particles(4) and/or porous metal oxides. The metal porous body is a sintered stainless steel. The hydrogen permeable membrane is a hydrogen permeable metal film. The hydrogen permeable metal film is a film of Pd or alloy thereof. The diffusion preventing layer is a ceramics layer. The metal oxide particles have the maximum particle diameter of 1 mum or less.
