摘要： PURPOSE: A memory device for controlling management/execution of application software is provided to offer a high security strength and convenience for installing or removing the application installed to the memory device of an IC card or a memory card. CONSTITUTION: A controller chip(102) is equipped with a host controller(106) for a host device(123), a flash memory controller for a flash memory chip(104), and an IC card chip controller(109) for an IC card chip. The host controller transmits/receives a card command from the host device through an external terminal(105), interprets the command by using a command interpreting module(107), and informs the flash memory controller or the IC card chip controller of a result. For the command related to access to the flash memory, the flash memory controller returns the result to the host controller by ordering the flash memory to read/write data. For the command related to access to the IC card chip(103), the IC card ship controller issues an IC card command to the IC card chip through a data transmitting module(111) and an I/O(Input/Output)(112), and returns the result to the host controller.

The host is a mobile phone, a PDA(Personal Digital Assistant), a PC, a music player, a video camera, an ATM(Automated Teller Machine), and a settlement terminal. The memory card includes an external port(140), the controller chip(120), the flash memory chip(130), and the IC card chip(150). Issuing an IC card command to the IC card chip from the external terminal, the IC card chip performs the operation needed for a security process requested from the host device.
