    • PURPOSE: The energy absorber for a rear bumper is provided to reduce the weight of a vehicle body and to enhance the working efficiency of manufacturing the rear bumper by replacing an existing impact beam with a foam-resin formed portion to allow the formed portion to be mounted to a vehicle body frame. CONSTITUTION: An energy absorber of a rear bumper comprises an absorbing portion(110) and a mounting portion(130). The absorbing portion(110) is fabricated of foam resin in the form corresponding to a facia. The absorbing portion(110) is rounded at the upper edge thereof. The absorbing portion(110) is formed with a plurality of shock dispersing grooves at the lower side thereof. Each of upper and lower surfaces of the absorbing portion(110) has a downward directed oblique surface. The mounting portion(130) has a thickness portion extending integrally from the absorbing portion(110) to a back panel, using foam resin. The mounting portion(130) is shaped to conform to the shape of the back panel. Each of upper and lower surfaces of the mounting portion(130) forms a continuous surface with the front portion(110). The mounting portion(130) has a pair of mounting shaft(170,170'). Each of the mounting shafts(170,170') has a cross-sectional shape to conform to a hollow portion(210) of each of a pair of longitudinal bars(200) which are abutted against the back panel. The mounting shafts(170,170) are directed toward the longitudinal bars(200).

CONSTITUTION: A rear bumper comprises a facia(101), an energy absorber(110), a back panel and a mounting member(200). The facia(101) faces the outside at the rear of the vehicle. The energy absorber(110) is mounted inside the facia(101) and has a thickness portion extending integrally from the energy absorber(110) to the back panel, using foam resin. The mounting member(200) includes a body(201), flanges(202) and a plurality of mounting pins(204). The body(201) mounts the energy absorber(110) to the back panel and projects toward the energy absorber(110). The flanges(202) are formed at the upper and lower sides of the body(201) which will be abutted against the back panel. The mounting pins(204) are mounted in the flanges(202). A rear portion(114) of the energy absorber(110) defines an engaging space(117) at a position engaged with the mounting member(200) and corresponding to the body(201). A mounting hole is formed in the back panel at positions engaged with the mounting member(200) and corresponding to the mounting pins(201).

CONSTITUTION: An energy absorber of a rear bumper comprises a front portion(110) and a rear portion(150). A front surface(112) of the front portion(110) contacts an inner surface of a facia and is shaped in the form corresponding to the facia. The front portion(110) is rounded at the upper edge thereof. The front portion(110) is formed with a plurality of shock dispersing grooves at the lower side thereof. Each of upper and lower surfaces of the front portion(110) has a downward directed oblique surface. A back surface of the front portion(110) is fabricated of foam resin having a predetermined bubbling ratio such that the back surface takes a form consisting of multiple concave and convex portions. A front surface of the rear portion(150) has upper and lower surfaces which are continuous to the upper and rear surface of the front portion(110). A back surface(154) of the rear portion(150) extends to a back panel and is shaped to conform to the shape of the back panel. The back surface(154) is fabricated of foam resin having a predetermined bubbling ratio which is different from that of the back surface(130) of the front portion(110). The back surface(154) has a corresponding multiple concave and convex portions such that the back surface(154) engages the back surface of the front portion(110).
