    • PURPOSE: A method for oxidizing a sulfide compound is provided, to obtain a sulfoxide compound or a sulfone compound by the selective oxidation by using the LiNbMoO6-H2O2 system. CONSTITUTION: A sulfide compound is oxidized selectively into a sulfoxide compound or a sulfone compound by reacting the sulfide compound with H2O2 as an oxidizing agent in the presence of LiNbMoO6 of a catalyst in an alcohol solvent, wherein the selectivity is controlled by the amount of the oxidizing agent quantitatively. In the reaction scheme 1, R and R' are independent each other and are an alkyl group, an alkenyl group, a vinyl group, an allyl group, a propargyl group or an aryl group; and R'' is an alkyl group of low molecular weight. Preferably the method comprises the steps of dissolving 1 eq. of a sulfide compound into an alcohol solvent, adding 0.01-0.1 eq. of LiNbMoO6 to the solution and adding 1 eq, of H2O2 aqueous solution at a temperature below 10 deg.C for oxidizing the sulfide compound selectively to obtain a sulfoxide compound. Preferably the method comprises the steps of dissolving 1 eq. of a sulfide compound into an alcohol solvent, adding 0.01-0.1 eq. of LiNbMoO6 to the solution and adding 2 eq. or more of H2O2 aqueous solution at a room temperature for oxidizing the sulfide compound selectively to obtain a sulfone compound.
