In operation, when a first terminal initiates communication with a second terminal that is already in communication with a third terminal, the system determines if the newly initiated communication is a priority communication. By ''priority'' communication, it is meant a communication associated with a user and/or terminal having a designated or assigned privilege to interrupt ongoing communications at the second terminal. If so, the ongoing communication between the second and third terminals is interrupted, and a communication link is established between the first and second terminals. Prior to interruption, the calling party may be informed that the second/called terminal is already engaged in another call, for optionally interrupting the ongoing call.

A switching system for providing user state information to an MS during a call connection standby period comprises an information transmission control server(610) and a state information service server(600). The information transmission control server requests and receives state information from one or more state information providing servers, in which state information for each service subscriber is stored. The state information service server interworks with an MSC(Mobile Switching Center). If a call request message is received from a service subscriber's MS, the state information service server receives the originating call from the MSC. Based on the received call request message, the state information service server provides the other side's state information to the calling or called MS. The state information service server executes call connection processing through the same method as the function execution of the MSC.
