    • PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for controlling illumination using an ultrasonic wave is provided to control illumination with high sensitivity and reduce unnecessary power consumption by reducing wrong operation. CONSTITUTION: An illumination system has a lamp. An ultrasonic oscillation circuit generates an ultrasonic pulse by producing an oscillation frequency. An ultrasonic transmitting part emits the ultrasonic pulse signal generated through the ultrasonic oscillation circuit into air. An ultrasonic receiving part receives the ultrasonic pulse signal emitted from the ultrasonic transmitting part. An ultrasonic sensor(150) outputs an object sensing signal. An illumination system control part determines whether there exists an object based on the object sensing signal output through the ultrasonic sensor and transmits a control signal that the lighting should be turned off to the illumination system, so as to control the lamp to be turned on and off. A time control part is further provided to maintain on-condition of the lamp for a predetermined period of time.
