    • The present invention relates to an air conditioner and a method for controlling the air conditioner. The air conditioner according to an embodiment of the present invention comprises: an object to be inspected; a sensing unit for sensing a state of the object; time measuring means for sensing time information related with the use of the object; a control unit for receiving information sensed by the sensing unit and the time measuring unit; and a display unit for displaying result information determined in the control unit. The air conditioner senses the state of the object when arriving at a previously set cycle, compares the sensed information with the preset standard information, and displays the compared result information. The method for controlling an air conditioner according to an embodiment of the present invention comprises the steps of: sensing time information related with the use of the object to be inspected; sensing the present information of the object when arriving at the previously set cycle; comparing the sensed present information with the previously set standard information to determine result information of the object; and outputting the determined result information. The present invention can conveniently check the state of the object to be inspected without disassembly of the air conditioner. Moreover, the present invention can prevent malfunction occurring when the user misses a chance to inspect because automatically inform when there is a need to inspect the air conditioner. Therefore, the present invention increases user convenience. The air conditioner according to the other embodiment of the present invention comprises: a detection part detecting the indoor or the outdoor environmental states of a space in which air conditioning is performed; a control part receiving information detected by the detection part, and then determining at least one recommended operation mode by comparing preset information with the information detected by the detection part; an output part outputting the recommended operation modes determined by the control part; and an input part capable of selecting the outputted recommended operation modes, wherein one of the recommended operation modes is performed after selected among the recommended operation modes. According to the present invention, a user can be informed of air conditioning operation modes suitable for various indoor or outdoor environmental states so that user convenience can be improved. In addition, the user can select a desired operation mode to be operated among the informed operation modes so that the user can form a desired indoor space environment. Furthermore, air conditioning operations can be performed in accordance with not only the indoor but also the outdoor environmental states so that air conditioning is performed by predicting environmental variations.
