    • PURPOSE: An enhanced electrokinetic remediation of contaminated soil using bamboo and charcoal is provided, which is characterized in that a bamboo electrode is used instead of a polyvinylchloride electrode. CONSTITUTION: An anodic electrode and a cathodic electrode are installed in contaminated soil, and electric power is applied to the contaminated soil through the electrodes. A water tank is communicated with the anodic electrode to keep water head at certain level. Hydrogen ion, which migrates toward the cathodic electrode from the anodic electrode by electrostatic attraction, desorbs heavy metal ion from contaminated soil. After the heavy metal is desorbed from the contaminated soil, it migrates toward the cathodic electrode by electrostatic attraction, convection and dispersion. When hydrogen ion being generated around the cathodic electrode migrates into soil bed by electrostatic attraction, it reacts with heavy metals to make hydroxide deposition around the cathodic electrode, thereby decreasing electrokinetic remediation capability of contaminated soil. This enhanced electrokinetic remediation is characterized in that a bamboo, which has shorter biological decomposition period than that of synthesized material, is adopted as a raw material for electrode instead of a polyvinylchloride.
