    • PURPOSE: Disclosed is a piezoelectric element exhibiting an electromechanical coupling factor which is of a level that the piezoelectric element can be practically used by utilizing energy enclosing by using a piezoelectric ceramics with a layered perovskite type structure having such characteristics as high temperature resistance and low high-frequency loss. CONSTITUTION: This piezoelectric element has a base body(12) formed from a piezoelectric ceramics having a layered perovskite type structure. In the base body(12), c axis is oriented preferentially in the width direction and polarization treatment is carried out is the longitudinal direction. Partial electrodes(14,16) are formed on the both main faces of the base body(12) and the partial electrodes(14,16) are arranged so that they oppose to each other at an area close to the center part of the base body. As the material of the base body(12), a piezoelectric porcelain composition containing, as a main component, a porcelain composition expressed by the general formula CaBi4Ti4O15) is preferably used.
