    • PURPOSE: A system and method for an inkjet print with a differential half-tone protective overcoat caused by gloss compensation is provided to produce a printed media having a uniform gloss level and to protect ink of printed images from damages caused by abrasion. CONSTITUTION: A printing device comprises a media transferring system, a printing station, a clear ink station, and a controller(50). The media transferring system transfers a print media along a media path. The printing station arranged along the media path comprises a plurality of first inkjet jetting devices jetting ink having one or more colors. The clear ink station arranged along the media path comprises a plurality of second inkjet jetting devices jetting clear ink. The controller receives digital data corresponding to images to be printed by an inkjet printing device and creates a coverage area map distinguishing image areas having different coverage area densities.

    • An ink jet printing method and apparatus using a color ink (Da) and a print performance improving ink (Db) which minimizes an image quality degradation due to blank lines formed by failed or faulty nozzles. This system enables the use of a print head (21-1 to 21-5) even with failed or faulty nozzles by minimizing the image quality degradation and extends the life of the print head (21-1 to 21-5) before replacement. The print performance improving ink (Db) is not ejected and landed near a blank line, thus allowing the color ink dots (Da) near the blank line to spread and thereby making the blank line undistinguishable.
