    • PURPOSE: An apparatus for manufacturing a precision mold is provided to be capable of making high sag lens molds having a high accuracy, a high degree of uniformity and a nearly 100% filling degree. CONSTITUTION: The apparatus for forming a precision mold for a micro-sized optical article, comprises a substrate and a forming element(24) for milling the substrate. The forming element(24) further includes a rotatable hardened cutting member(26) arranged for milling a predetermined shaped mold cavity in the substrate. Also, the rotatable hardened cutting member(26) further comprises diamond. The diamond further includes a substantially planar first face(28), a planar second face(30) orthogonal to the substantially planar first face(28) and a generally contoured cutting face(32) intersecting the substantially planar first face(28) and planar the second face(30).
