    • PURPOSE: A process for preparing phosphite is provided, thereby industrially preparing phosphite from unrefined biphenol, and improving working environment by treating solid biphenol to inhibit dust formation. CONSTITUTION: The process for preparing phosphite represented by formula (I) comprises the steps of: (a) coupling phenol compound of formula (II) under oxidative condition in the presence of inert solvent to prepare a reaction mixture containing biphenol of formula (III); (b) extracting the biphenol of formula (III) from the reaction mixture using hydrophobic organic solvent; and (c) reacting the biphenol of formula (III) in the hydrophobic organic solvent with phosphorous trihalide and hydroxyl compound of formula (IV) in the presence of dehydrohalogenating agent, wherein R1, R2, R4 and R5 are independently hydrogen, C1-8 alkyl, C5-8 cycloalkyl, C6-12 alkylcycloalkyl, C7-12 aralkyl or phenyl, or phenyl substituted with alkyl or alkoxy; R3 is hydrogen or C1-8 alkyl; A is C2-8 alkylene or *-C(=O)- or *-C(=O)-R7-; R7 is C1-8 alkylene, and the bond of * is the bond connected with oxygen; and one of Y and Z is hydroxyl, C1-8 alkoxy or C7-12 aralkyloxy and the other one is hydrogen or C1-8 alkyl.
