    • PURPOSE: A repeater for expanding the uplink coverage in a radio data communication system and a method thereof are provided to interrupt what a spurious signal is amplified and supplied to a base station, in order to prevent the uplink coverage of a repeater from being limited. CONSTITUTION: An RF signal, inputted from a terminal, is mixed with a sine wave, generated from a local oscillator(215), through the first mixer(207) and outputted as an IF signal. This IF signal is inputted to an IF signal processing part(209) comprising an attenuation part, a control part and an input detection part. The attenuation part in the IF signal processing part(209) executes amplitude attenuation for the inputted IF signal, based on a control signal outputted from the control part, according to fluctuations in monitoring voltage outputted from the input detection part. The input detection part receives the IF signal through the attenuation part and converts the RF power of the signal into voltage. Then the input detection part sends this converted voltage to a comparison part(211) and the control part as monitoring voltage(MV). The control part converts the monitoring voltage(MV) into digital data and sends the converted data to the attenuation part so that a variable attenuation can be made.
