CONSTITUTION: A lighting optical system comprises a first light source, a first ellipsoidal mirror (111a), a first mirror (113a), a second light source, a second ellipsoidal mirror (111b), and a second mirror (113b). The first light source emits the light at first wavelength band. The first ellipsoidal mirror reflects the light emitted from the first light source. The first mirror reflects the light from the first ellipsoidal mirror to condensing lens (116). The second light source emits the light at second wavelength band. The second ellipsoidal mirror emits the light emitted from the second light source. The second mirror is installed between the first mirror and the condensing lens, and reflects the light from the second ellipsoidal mirror to the condensing lens.     • PURPOSE: A light source device and a light generating method are provided to emit the lights of broadband having high lighting efficiency and uniform illuminance. CONSTITUTION: A broadband light source device (100) includes a chamber (102), a laser emitter, an oval mirror (112), and an energy source. The chamber is filled with only high-pressure gases. The laser emitter is arranged outside the chamber for generating a plasma domain (18) on the central portion of the chamber. The oval mirror surrounds the chamber while being spaced from the chamber so that the lights emitted from the plasma domain are incident to and reflected by the surface of the oval mirror uniformly and collected. A rod lens collects the lights emitted from the plasma domain of the central portion of the chamber and reflected by the oval mirror, thereby generating a surface-light source. The energy source evaporates the initial mercury inside the chamber and ionizes the high-pressure gases.
