    • PURPOSE: A pre-equalizer, a VSB transmission system and method using the pre-equalizer are provided to obtain a correct bit precision for pre-equalization and stably transmit signals using the pre-equalizer. CONSTITUTION: A pre-equalizer includes the first and second memories(110,130), and an equalizer(120). The first memory stores the first transmission signal inputted from the outside. The second memory stores the second transmission signal that is obtained by modulating the first transmission signal, transmitting the modulated signal and then demodulating the signal. The equalizer calculates a bit precision on the basis of an error value that is a difference between the first and second transmission signals stored in the first and second memories, respectively, and carries out pre-equalization based on the bit precision.

    • The present invention provides a method for obtaining a soft decision value by a receiving end of a multi-input multi-output (MIMO) communications system comprising steps of detecting signals transmitted by transmission antennas from MIMO reception signals received by multiple antennas by using a minimum mean square error (MMSE) detection matrix; calculating symbols by distributing a channel gain to the detected signals; demapping soft decision bits by a soft decision demapper by using the calculated symbols; and generating final soft decision bits by applying a correction value generated by using a value of a real part of the channel gain to the demapped soft decision bits. By simply calculating the correction value applied to the soft decision bits, complexity of the receiving end can be reduced to simplify formation of a receiving unit, perform MIMO detection, and obtain performance similar to that of maximum likelihood detection (MLD).
