    • A method for characterizing a transmitting antenna (506) of a satellite in orbit including a payload (500) including signal amplification means (504, 505) comprises the steps of: configuring the amplification means (504, 505) to generate thermal noise in the input of the transmitting antenna (506); acquiring a signal transmitted by the transmitting antenna (506) on the downlink of the satellite over a predetermined time period by a ground station (103); controlling the satellite in orbit to transmit an angular bias of predetermined variation to the satellite in orbit and recording the variation during the predetermined time period; and correlating the variation of the angular bias of the satellite and the measurement of the signal transmitted on the downlink to derive the gain variation of the transmitting antenna (506) as a function of the angular bias of the satellite.
