    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color image display device which has a simple and inexpensive peripheral brightness compensation device that utilizes an electronic gun of a cathode-ray tube.
      SOLUTION: The color image display device includes a panel which has a screen on an internal surface, a funnel which is joined to the panel, an electronic gun which is arranged at the neck section of the funnel and discharges electron beams to the screen, a deflection device which is used to display an image on the screen by deflecting the electron beams discharged from the electron gun in horizontal and vertical directions and a shadow mask which is arranged with a prescribed gap from the screen. The electronic gun includes a triode section consists of a cathode which generates electron beams, a grid electrode 4 which is arranged adjacent to the cathode and an accelerating electrode 5 which is arranged adjacent to the grid electrode. A variable voltage VG is applied to either the electrode 4 or the electrode 5 to compensate for brightness.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thin and high-voltage FED(field emission display) having an emitter formed by using a field emission raw material having a small work function, such as a carbon nano-tube or the like. SOLUTION: This field emission display element 1 has an envelope 2 whose inside is retained in a high vacuum atmosphere by sealing the interval between peripheries of a cathode substrate 3 and an anode substrate 4, facing each other. Cathode electrodes 5, a resistance layer 6, and emitters 8 of carbon nano- tubes are installed on the inner face of the cathode substrate 3. An anode 9 comprising a phosphor layer 10 and a metal back layer 11 is installed on the inner face of the anode substrate 4. Shield electrodes 12 for suppressing selective emission of electrons from the emitters 8 by an electric field of the anode 9 is installed between the anode 9 and the cathode. The cathode electrodes 5 and the shield electrodes 12 compose a matrix. A positive potential is always applied on the anode 9 relative to the cathode electrodes 5, and the potential of a desired cathode electrode 5 is made zero, and the potential of a desired shield electrode 12 is made positive. Electric field electrons are emitted from the emitter 8 placed on the position selected by the desired cathode electrode 5 and the desired shield electrode 12.
