摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording and reproducing device whose manufacturing cost is low and which has high quality and is easily disassembled and assembled in maintenance or the like. SOLUTION: This magnetic recording and reproducing device is provided with a sub chassis unit on which a cassette can be mounted, a main chassis unit including a rotating cylinder for recording information on a magnetic tape and/or reproducing the information from the magnetic tape, and an idler mounted on the main chassis unit. The sub chassis unit further includes a reel lock releasing member for releasing a lock of a reel locking part of a cassette while the cassette is mounted on the sub chassis unit, a light emitting element for emitting light to detect the start edge and the end edge of a magnetic tape of the cassette while the cassette is mounted on the sub chassis unit, and a means that can mount the idler on the main chassis unit after assembling the sub chassis unit and the main chassis unit.
